Tulsa, Oklahoma

On May 31st, 1921 a prosperous black community in Tulsa Oklahoma experienced the single worst incident of racial violence in American History.  11,00 Black Americans were left homeless and businesses were set on fire.  Estimates of loss of life range from 300 to 3,000 or more.  By the time the violence ended, the city placed under martial law.  And burned to the ground in 16 hours of civil disorder.
